SPEAKER SERIES
Liron Gertsman - The Great Gathering - March 21, 2024, 7:00 PM
On March 21st we are privileged to have Liron Gertsman once again speak to our club. Liron’s work has been widely recognized and awarded, sweeping the professional category of the 2022 Audubon Photography Awards, winning the grand prize of the 2023 Audubon Photography Awards, and earning a highly commended designation in the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. He has been observing and photographing the natural world continuously since he first got his hands on a borrowed camera and pair of binoculars at the age of five. His work has been experienced by millions in some of the largest museums across the world, including the Natural History Museum in London and the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
Liron will provide a virtual exploration of the Pacific Northwest's coastal ecosystems above and below the surface, featuring the stories behind his photographs of the annual salmon run and spectacular bird and wildlife gatherings that follow suit.
Member Sharing / External Evaluation Nights
Our next Member Share Night is on Thursday, April 4. The special theme for this month is Birds, so this will be a great opportunity for those of you who went on the Florida field trip to share some of your recent images. Each member may submit up to 2 images, and submissions are due by Sunday, March 31. Members are encouraged to submit both out-of-camera and post-processed versions of each image. In addition, members can bring up to two prints, mounted in a way that they can be displayed on an easel. Click HERE for complete details on submitting photos.
2024 NWCCC Traveling Image Salon
From Stephen Shoff:
Voting is open now for March. This month OPCC is voting on images from our associated Olympic Camera Club. To view and vote for the images, click HERE and follow the appropriate links. Each month's voting must be completed by the 25th of the month. For “judging” and voting instructions, please review the first several paragraphs of the “Overview of the NWCCC Traveling Salon” on the web page.
The unique characteristic of this competition is that it is judged entirely by the membership of the participating NWCCC clubs. Judging is open to all paid-up members of OPCC. You are not required to have submitted images to the competition in order to vote.
Only eleven OPCC members voted in February. I would like to encourage you to use this contest to view wonderful images from other photographic clubs in our region and then take the additional steps to evaluate them critically. Lets see if we can't get our participation rate up a bit.
