The operation of The Olympic Peaks Camera Club is totally reliant upon volunteers. Due to recent resignations, many of our current volunteers are performing multiple duties and are overworked. In order for us to continue to provide the services and events you have come to expect, WE NEED YOUR HELP. Any sort of assistance is most welcome. PSA Interclub Competition

The final results for the Monochrome Division of the PSA Interclub Competition have been announced. Congratulations to Lori Moilanen for receiving a Merit Award for her image “Elegance at Full Throttle”. Overall, our club finished at about the middle of our group for the Monochrome Division. Well done, everyone, thank you for your hard work - this was a great showing for our first foray into the PSA Interclub Competitions! And also thank you to Wiita Priester and Peggy McClure for all of your hardwork to make this happen.

Clallam County Fair

From Lewis Bennett and Peggy McClure:

OPCC will once again run the Photography Barn at the Clallam County Fair this year. Lewis Bennett, a long time club member, has stepped up and is coordinating the Club’s efforts. Bruce Fryxell has volunteered to be his assistant. The Fair runs from Thursday, Aug 17 through Sunday, Aug 20. Photo intake will be on Sunday, Aug 13, between noon and 6 p.m., and Monday, Aug 14, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Photo hanging and judging will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug 15 and 16.

For this to be a success, We need people from our club to volunteer for three-hour shifts for photo intake, photo hanging, and monitoring of the exhibit. It is not hard work. If we get enough volunteers, the workload for each person should be pretty low. Without people helping, the Photo Barn at the Fair cannot continue! Volunteers will receive free admission to the fair.

There is now a signup sheet on our website to make volunteering very easy. Click HERE to volunteer. There will also be a spreadsheet on the web updated weekly to let you know what slots are still open. Executive Committee Meeting

The next meeting of our Executive Committee will be held on Thursday, June 22 via Zoom. All members are encouraged to attend to learn what is going on behind the scenes or to express your concerns.

Then don't miss our club's education night on June 15 at 7:00 PM and hear John Gregor speak about black and white photography. John has a Master of Education with an emphasis on Photographic Literacy. He will present a straightforward approach to how to see and create B&W images and will also present camera techniques and his workflow for creating compelling B&W images. This is one night that is not to be missed!

MEMBER SHARING / EXTERNAL EVALUATION NIGHTS

July Share Night

The next member share night is Thursday, July 6. The special topic for July is “2 of a Kind”. Let’s have some fun! Submit 2 images processed differently, or 2 captures of the same view, or 2 of something similar. Experiment - show off your creativity, all ideas are welcomed!

The meeting will be a hybrid event, with the in-person meeting at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sequim. Anyone not wanting to attend the in-person meeting at the church will be able to participate via Zoom as usual. Use the OPCC Member Share Night Zoom Code to access this meeting. FIELD TRIPS, WORKSHOPS, & MEET-UPS

Photographing Tide Pools at Low Tide at Salt Creek

Our next field trip will be on Friday, June 16 from 7:00 to 11:30 AM to photograph the tide pools at Salt Creek. Low tide is at approximately 8:40 AM. A good central place to meet is at Tongue Point Overlook. A very detailed description of the field trip including maps can be found HERE. Mark your calendars for August 26 for our annual club picnic. Thanks to Mary Swartz for reserving the picnic shelter at Salt Creek for the event. More details will be provided later this summer.

Additional Photo Opportunities

Marina Shipova Photo Shoot

Marina Shipova is setting up a fantasy-style photo shoot, and she has invited us to join her. This is a great opportunity not to be missed. It should be a lot of fun. Marina has been our featured speaker twice in recent years, and those of you who attended know that she is a master of setting up very elaborate and creative scenes to photograph. The photo shoot will take place on Friday, June 9 from 5-6 PM at Peninsula College, located at 1502 E Lauridsen Blvd, Port Angeles. The meeting place is Room M-134, Keegan Hall on the Peninsula College Campus. A map of the campus can be found HERE.

Gallery Exhibitions

Sequim Museum and Arts (June Exhibit)

Our exhibit at the Sequim Museum and Arts Center is underway. If you haven’t already done so, please stop by and see the wonderful photos of twelve of our club members. The photos will be on exhibit for the remainder of the month during regular museum hours. We had approximately 100 visitors at the First Friday opening reception. Thank you to Dan McKenna, Kevin Talbot, Suzanne Anaya, and Stephen Shoff for helping to hang the pictures.

We will also be exhibiting at the museum during the month of July with a whole new set of photos. The First Friday reception for next month will be on July 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

The Lakeshore in South Seattle

NWCCC is sponsoring a juried photo exhibition for members of affiliated clubs from June 10 to Sep 30. The location is The Lakeshore, 11448 Ranier Ave South Seattle, WA 98178. The Lakeshore is an ERA retirement community at the south end of Lake Washington. For more information, see https://www.eraliving.com/communities/lakeshore/calendar/. On Sunday June 10, there will be a reception limited to artists and their guests. After that, the exhibit will be open to the public from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily including weekends. Since this exhibition is held in a retirement community, there may be electronic sign-in; masking rules are based on WA state and CDC guidelines.

A total of 97 photos were submitted by 37 photographers, and 45 of these were accepted. One photo was accepted from each photographer, and one additional photo was accepted from eight of the participants. Ellen Bogenschutz, Bruce Fryxell, and Mary Swartz were the three members of OPCC who responded to the Call for Art in February, with four photos accepted for the show. Many of our partners from the Olympia Camera Club will also be participating.
